The cabinet has today advised the President to declare the Bandaara Kilhi wetland, the Dhan’dimagi Kilhi wetland, and the northern beach area of Fuvammulah Island as preserved areas, as per Act 4/93, the Environmental Protection and Preservation Act of Maldives.

While deliberating on a paper presented by the Ministry of Environment and Energy at today’s meeting, members of the cabinet noted that Fuvammulah Island naturally possessed environmentally unique features, and a rich ecosystem.

At today’s cabinet meeting, members also decided to incorporate the services being provided by the National Blood Transfusion Center and the National Thalassemia Center, under a new establishment, “Maldives Blood Services”.

Further, discussions were held on adopting WHO’s “International Health Regulations 2005” in the Maldives.
