President Dr Mohamed Waheed has this morning departed to the UK, to attend the Diamond Jubilee functions of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Head of the Commonwealth. First Lady Madam Ilham Hussain is accompanying the President during this visit.
Prior to his departure, the President met with the local media and answered some questions posed to him on the current political situation in the country.
Speaking to the media, President Waheed conveyed his hopes that this trip would enable for him to brief senior officials of the UK and other Commonwealth countries, the current political and economic situation of the Maldives.
