President Dr Mohamed Waheed and First Lady Madam Ilham Hussain have this evening arrived in New Delhi, India. The President is making a visit at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
The President and First Lady were greeted on arrival at the New Delhi airport, by India’s Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur, the Maldivian High Commissioner accredited to India Abdul Azeez Yoosuf, Foreign Secretary of India Ranjan Mathai, senior officials at the Maldivian High Commission in Delhi, and senior officials of the Indian protocol.
This visit is the first overseas visit of President Waheed, subsequent to his assumption of office. During President Waheed’s visit to India, discussions will mainly be focused on ways of furthering the development of bilateral relations.
The President is scheduled to meet with Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and other key Indian officials tomorrow.
During this visit, the President is being accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdul Samad Abdulla, Minister of Finance and Treasury Abdulla Jihad, Minister of Housing and Environment Dr Mohamed Muiz, and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dhunya Maumoon.
