The United States Ambassador accredited to the Maldives Ms Patricia A. Butenis has today paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed.
At the meeting held at the President’s Office, the US Ambassador expressed her concerns over the current economic situation in the Maldives. The Ambassador assured the President that the US would provide any assistance required, in getting international aid in stabilising the Maldivian economy.
Referring to the recent political changeover, Ambassador Butenis noted the importance of dialogue, in peacefully resolving the political issues in the Maldives, and encouraged talks among all parties.
Speaking at the meeting, President Waheed informed the Ambassador that the National Inquiry Commission was fully functioning and working smoothly. The President also assured that he would not influence the commission’s work in anyway, and that he would ensure the government’s full cooperation to the commission. He said that the government welcomes consultants from the international community to work with the commission.
Further, the President spoke on the measures being taken by the government, in stabilising the economy of the country.
