President Dr Mohamed Waheed has thanked the Members of the People’s Majlis for the strong support and endorsement given to the government today by approving the Vice President and the Cabinet appointed by the President. The President made this statement speaking at a press conference held at the President’s Office on Wednesday afternoon.
In his remarks, the President particularly noted the many distinguished services by Vice President Mohamed Waheed Deen and expressed pleasure that he was approved by the Parliament as the Vice President. He added he was confident the Vice President Deen would play a vital role towards national reconciliation.
Vice President Deen also spoke at the press conference, which was attended by Cabinet ministers, several members of the Parliament, including the Speaker.
Vice President said he accepted the position only to serve the country and the people. He added that he would treat all citizens equally and affirmed that he would uphold the values of Islam and the Constitution. He also pledged full support to the President and said he would do the job as Vice President to the best of his ability.
The President and the Vice President also took questions from the media.
