President Dr Mohamed Waheed today met with the Director General of Indian Coast Guard Vice Admiral M.P. Muralidharan. The meeting was held this morning at the President’s Office.

Discussions at the meeting were focused on strengthening the mutual cooperation between the Coast Guards of the two countries.

President Waheed noted that the Maldives lack capacity to protect the maritime area of the country, and thanked the Indian government for their cooperation in this area.

Vice Admiral Muralidharan stressed the importance of coordinating surveillance efforts and on enhancing the scope of joint Coast Guard exercises between the two countries. He also briefed the President on the ongoing trilateral joint exercise between the Maldives, India and Sri Lanka.
