Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed has met with Maldivian students participating in Children’s Climate Forum Copenhagen 2009.

The Forum, hosted by City of Copenhagen and UNICEF, to be held in Denmark from 28 November to 4 December is an international climate forum for children and young people aimed at giving them a voice in the climate debate.

Speaking at the meeting held at the President’s Office this morning, the Vice President said the young people could contribute most to address the issue of climate change.

The Vice President called on the students to impress upon other children who participate in the Forum that climate change was happening and it was not only an issue for the Maldives or other small and developing countries.

At the meeting, Vice President Dr Waheed elaborated on the carbon neutral plan, and the Maldives’ efforts to address the issue of climate change.

He also spoke on the Maldives’s position for the Copenhagen summit.

Four students representing the Maldives at the Children’s Climate Forum Copenhagen 2009 are:
1. Mohamed Aksam – Majeedhiyya School
2. Mohamed Ansar – Dharumavantha School
3. Aminath Riuman Wasif – Gn Atoll Education Centre
4. Aishath Shifana Ahmed – B Atoll Education Centre
