President Dr Mohamed Waheed has called for a united effort to build a better society, by providing a well rounded education to today’s young people. The President made the statement while speaking at the ceremony to award the national top achievers in secondary school completion examinations of 2011.

In his speech, President Waheed expressed concern over the lack of discipline among some of the school leavers. He said, to produce a responsible and capable generation of young people, schools must be allowed to instil discipline and good attitudes in students.

Continuing in this regard, the President said a meaningful education and good discipline could be instilled in students when educators and teachers work as partners. He added that they must also foster genuine and transparent relationship with students. He, therefore, called on teachers, school staffs, parents, students and the whole community to work together to achieve this goal.

At the ceremony, the President presented awards to the four students who achieved the first place in the world. Those four students are, Ahmed Shaffaan Mohamed of Majeedhiyya School who won the first place in Computer Studies; Ahmed Hindham of Majeedhiyya School who won the first place in Travel and Tourism; Amru Mohamed Didi of Fuwahmulaku Education Centre who won the first place in Business Studies; and, Fathimath Sana Haleem of Muhibbudin School who won the first place in English as a Second Language.
