President Dr Mohamed Waheed has today visited Madifushi and Dhiyamigili of Thaa atoll, and met with the people of the islands.
Meeting the people of Madifushi, the President expressed his concerns of several families still living in temporary shelters following the 2004 tsunami. The President appealed to the Minister of Housing and Environment Dr Mohamed Muiz, to provide better alternatives of housing for the families residing at temporary shelters, by the end of the year 2012.
Affirming that this government was one that had the patience and capability to listen to the opposition, the President said that the government would attend to everyone, and try to work together, united. The President also said that the government was inclusive of all parties.
Highlighting the many issues faced in Madifushi, the President said that he would ensure that immediate measures were taken to solve the issue of coastal erosion.
President Waheed today also visited Dhiyamigili of Thaa Atoll. In his address to the people of the island, the President reiterated that the welfare benefits previously provided to the people will be continued by this government as well.
