President Dr Mohamed Waheed has today inaugurated the National Awards Committee.
During a meeting with the members of the committee, the President said the National Awards Committee was an independent committee and assured that the government would respect the decisions of the committee.
The President also called said that the committee had the full authority to reassess the awards criteria and to bring the necessary changes.
The President reconstituted the National Awards Committee on Monday, following the end of the three year term of the previous National Awards Committee.
