The Chargé d'Affaires at the American Embassy Valerie Fowler has paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Waheed. The meeting was held this morning at the President’s Office.

At the meeting, the President briefed Ms Fowler on the work done by the government in establishing peace in the country. He also spoke on the measures the government was taking to create an environment in which a free and fair election in the Maldives could be held.

The President further reiterated that he would do everything possible to uphold the rule of law. He said maintaining peace and order in the country was a top priority of the government,

Ms Fowler spoke on the importance of building capacity for an election. She also enquired on the IMF delegation’s recent visit and their recommendations for stabilising the country’s economy.
