On the first day of parliamentary business for 2012, the Deputy Speaker of the People’s Majlis Mr Ahmed Nazim made an important ruling about the legitimacy of the new Government.
Addressing the Majlis, Mr Nazim said
“It has become important that I make this ruling to the Majlis in connection with the change of the Government on February 7, 2012.
President Dr Mohamed Waheed took his Oath of Office as President on February 7, 2012 in the Majlis. The President then delivered the Presidential Address in accordance with the Constitution of the Maldives on March 19, 2012. The Majlis is satisfied that the change of government on February 7, 2012 happened according to the Law.”
President Waheed welcomed this decision by the Majlis and called on all parties to redouble their efforts to bring stability, security and prosperity to the Maldives.
