President Mohamed Nasheed has said that the government is working to release the documents of President Ibrahim Nasir’s government. He made the statement in this week’s radio address.

The President Nasheed used his weekly address to speak on the important services rendered by President Nasir.

The documents, added the President, will give a better understanding of President Nasir’s administration and on some of the decisions he had taken as President.

The President said that there had been injustices done to Nasir’s person and property, and pointed out that President Nasir’s residence, Velaanaage, was taken over by the state.

He said that it would give him great pleasure if the office complex being built in Velaanaagé compound could be named in President Ibrahim Nasir’s honour.

In his radio address, the President also spoke on the bill to prohibit places of worship for non-Muslim foreigners in the Maldives. The bill, proposed by an independent member of the People’s Majlis, is being debated in the People’s Majlis.

He called on religious scholars to debate the issue to make a decision based on Shari’ah ruling on the matter, adding that the Constitution stipulated no law could be contrary to the tenets of Islam.

He added that before he could ratify such a bill, he would be forced to get the Shari’ah ruling on the subject.
