President Dr Mohamed Waheed has said that the Maldives being a homogenous country with one religion, language and ethnicity, the discord and division that exists among the people was damaging for the whole country.
The President made this statement today while addressing the people of Isdhoo-Kalaidhoo, as part of his current visit to Laamu Atoll.
Reaffirming that he would treat everyone equally and justly, President Waheed said that he was currently in discussions with all the political parties, including the MDP.
He further reiterated his commitment to uphold the rule of law and protect the rights of the people. He said that he would put in every effort to restore peace and harmony in the country.
In his speech, the President also said that the government aimed at working closely with the people, and that the government was always at the service of the people.
