President Dr Mohamed Waheed has said that today we are all under the shade of our dignified red, green and white flag, putting forth a front of unity for the future of our country, regardless of the political parties we belong to. The President made these remarks while addressing the people of Maaun’goodhoo this afternoon.

Speaking in this regard, the President expressed his hopes for the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to work in association with the other political parties active in the present government.

In his speech, President Waheed spoke on the necessity to work together, no matter which party was in power, for our country to progress towards achieving our definite goals.

Stating that the Maldives has changed for the better, the President said that the government will respect the values of Islam, and uphold the Constitution and the rule of law, while chartering a right course to sail our nation’s ship to a safe harbor.

Highlighting the journey the Maldives has taken in establishing a democracy, President Waheed noted especially that the new constitution was ratified, and the ruling power transitioned in 2008, in the hope for the Maldives to move in a better direction. However, the President said that during the past three years, we saw the country deviate from the road to democracy, and hence, move further away from its democratic aspirations.
