President Dr Mohamed Waheed has today met with the Deputy Head of Mission at the Japanese Embassy, Mr.Hideki Ishizuka. The meeting was held this morning at the President’s Office.

Speaking at the meeting, the President highlighted the close ties that exist between the Maldives and Japan and expressed the government’s commitment to continue strengthening those relations.

Briefing Mr Ishizuka on the current political situation of the country, the President said the top priority of his administration was to strengthen democracy in the country and to uphold the rule of law.

President Waheed also said the government has paved way for dialogue and that it hoped that the political issues could be solved through all-party discussions.

Mr Ishizuka noted that President Waheed was gaining confidence of the international community and praised the President for his efforts.
