At today’s cabinet meeting, President Mohamed Nasheed briefed the cabinet members on his recent visit to India.

The President visited India on the invitation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to participate in a high level climate conference organized by the Indian government and the United Nations.

Briefing the members of the cabinet, the President highlighted the successful talks he had with the Indian GMR Group to upgrade Hanimaadhoo Airport to international standards.

He also said he had discussions with the Indian company, Shri Educare that is collaborating with the government to make Ghiyaasudeen School a privately-run school.

The President also added that he had successful talks with another Indian company to collaborate with the government in renewable energy projects in the South.

During the visit the President met with the Indian Prime Minister Dr Singh and Congress Party leader Mrs Sonia Gandhi.
