The new High Commissioner of Uganda to the Maldives, Ms Nimisha Jayant Madhwani and the new Eyptian Ambassador to the Maldives, Mr Fawzi Mohammed El Said Gohar presented their Credentials to President Mohamed Nasheed today. The presentation of their Letters of Credentials was held this morning at the President’s Office.

After the presentations, the President met with the two diplomats separately and discussed ways of strengthening bilateral ties between the Maldives and the respective countries.

The diplomats noted and applauded the important role that President Nasheed has played in promoting awareness on environmental issues in the global arena.

The Ugandan High Commissioner discussed with the President on ways of strengthening the relations between the Maldives and Uganda through enhanced cooperation in fields of trade and tourism.

During the meeting with the Egyptian Ambassador, the President noted that excellent bilateral relations have been fostered between the Maldives and Egypt over the past years and expressed the government’s wish to continue the relations. The President also noted the special assistance that the Government of Egypt had accorded to the Maldivian students studying in Egypt and explored possibilities of seeking more scholarships to Maldivian students.

Ambassador Gohar expressed the desire of the Egyptian Government to enhance relations with the Maldives in all areas.
