President Mohamed Nasheed has requested the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) to speedily implement its decision to discipline Criminal Court Judge Abdulla Mohamed.

The JSC’s complaints committee has investigated allegations of misconduct against Abdulla Mohamed and recommended action against the judge. However last year, the Civil Court ordered the judicial watchdog to take no action against Abdulla Mohamed, despite a report by the JSC claiming that he had violated the Judge’s Code of Conduct.

In a letter to the President of Judicial Services Commission, President Nasheed noted that it is the Constitutional responsibility of the Commission to investigate complaints against the Judiciary, and to take disciplinary action on those complaints, including recommendations for dismissal.

He stated that any obstruction to establish a just judiciary in the country was an obstruction to national security and public safety.

President called on the JSC to fully execute its Constitutional duties.
