President Mohamed Nasheed has today met with Major General Shavendra Silva, Director General, Operations of the Sri Lankan Army. The meeting was held this morning at the President’s Office.
Speaking at the meeting the President said that Sri Lanka and the Maldives had always enjoyed close relations. He congratulated the Sri Lankan army for their tremendous success in effecting an end to the decades-old conflict in their country. He further expressed confidence that refugee problem would soon be solved and that Sri Lanka and the people of Sri Lanka would attain peace and prosperity.
Major General Shavendra Silva said that the Maldivian army consisted of young and very capable personnel. He added that military cooperation could be enhanced between the two countries.
