Vice President Dr. Mohamed Waheed has said that NGO Efforts is an instrumental mechanism in combating drug abuse within civil society. The Vice President made this statement while speaking at the 5th Anniversary of Society for Women Against Drugs (SWAD), held at Ghiyasuddhin International School, yesterday evening.
During his speech, the Vice President stated that the assistance efforts of NGO’s are required alongside those of the government to prevent the escalation of drug trade and enforce government drug policies. The Vice President further stated that NGO’s will assist in promoting the recovery of young and teenage drug abusers, and gain way for their return into society.
The Vice President added that the misuse of drugs promotes acts of indecency, and that as a result, transmission of AIDS may increase within the country. The Vice President further added that results of the current survey would reveal further information on misuse of drugs within civil society.
