President Mohamed Nasheed and Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed have today met with the Foreign Minister of Thailand, Mr Kasit Piromya.

The President met with the Thai Foreign Minister at the Official Residence of the President (Muleeaage) and the Vice President’s meeting took place at the Official Residence of the Vice President (Hilaaleege) this afternoon.

In his meeting with the Thai Foreign Minister, the President underscored the long and well established relationship that exists between the Maldives and Thailand.

The President discussed on ways in which greater engagement between both countries could be explored.

Similarly, in the meeting with the Vice President, both the Vice President and Thai Foreign Minister held discussions on cooperating in economic and trade areas.

Mr Piromya, who is in the Maldives on a one-day visit, said that Thailand was ready to collaborate with the Maldivian government in the areas of investment and trade. He especially expressed interest in collaborating in the area of fish processing.

He also expressed admiration for President Nasheed’s effort to bring democratic reform to the Maldives.

Vice President Dr Waheed had earlier met with the Prime Minister of Thailand in Bangkok during a transit visit, on Friday.
