In his address to the nation on the occasion of the Republic Day, President Mohamed Nasheed has said that he will not let the hopes and the aspirations and the dreams of the people of our country remain unfulfilled during his Presidency.
Speaking at an official function held at Addu City Square, this evening, the President reflected on the development projects undertaken by his government to spur a leadership that is responsive to the hopes and aspirations of the people.
He said we are in a time when the realization of ideas that had been previously been dismissed as dreams, is now being achieved due to a daring, extraordinary vision of a people who work with patience and loyalty and faith.
He said to consolidate the values of good and benevolent governance in the society and promote meaningful change we must not deny the freedom of our people nor condemn religious and social rights of the people. He added that all basic necessities should be accessible and the people should not be isolated nor left defenceless against their governors.
Reflecting on the recent events in Addu City and Fuahmulah, he said it is a record of the achievement which meets the standards set by the government for the transition of a vision of national progress into reality. He further said his political party intends to ceaselessly pursue the protection of the interest of the people and the achievement of sustainable development.
In his address, the President emphasized the results of the SAARC Summit have overwhelmed other larger and superior countries. He added that the accomplishment of the project within a short period shows the skills and capability of the Maldivian people.
“Our government intends to follow the example we have set in this Region, across the country.” He further said.
