President Mohamed Nasheed has this morning, met with President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan.
At the meeting held in Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort and Spa, discussions were held on the bilateral relations between the Maldives and Afghanistan, and ways to further strengthen the relations. President Nasheed and President Karzai also discussed on ways to make this year’s SAARC Summit a successful one, and exchanged ideas on the goals set for this Summit. Particularly, the Heads of State emphasised on the importance of the Railways Agreement and Renewable Energy Investments in SAARC member countries.
President Nasheed also met with the Foreign Secretary of Japan, an observer of this year’s SAARC Summit. At the meeting President Nasheed expressed his gratitude to the Japanese government for their continued assistance in the economic development of Maldives.
