The first Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, in the Maldives, has been opened this evening.

The embassy was jointly opened by the Special Envoy of the President Ibrahim Hussain Zaki, Speaker of the Parliament Abdulla Shahid, Chinese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Zhang Zhijun, and the Ambassador of China accredited to the Maldives, Yu Hongyao.

Speaking at the ceremony held at Traders Hotel, the Special Envoy expressed his gratitude and congratulations to the government and the people of China for establishing an embassy in the Maldives.

Highlighting the close diplomatic relations between the two countries, the Special Envoy conveyed his deep appreciation to the government of China for the assistance provided in various areas of development in the Maldives. He also expressed his hopes for continued mutual relations between the Maldives and China.
