Vice President Dr. Mohamed Waheed has today inaugurated the 12th Western China International Fair, as part of his current visit to China.

Addressing the forum at the fair, the Vice President highlighted the many areas in which Chinese companies have provided generous assistance to the development of Maldives, via investments in the tourism, housing and renewable energy sectors.

In his speech, Vice President Dr Waheed highlighted the importance of such a forum, noting the different challenges faced in Asian counties in areas like economic development, facilitating job opportunities for youth, climate change and other environmental issues. Further, the Vice President highlighted the vulnerability of the environment in the Maldives, and shared at the forum, the many measures being taken against the challenges faced.

During his visit to China, Vice President Dr Waheed met with the Deputy Speaker of the Chinese Parliament today. At the meeting, discussions were held on the close bilateral relations between the two countries, and ways to further strengthen the relations. The Vice President also discussed with the Deputy Speaker on providing more opportunities at Chinese Universities for Maldivian students.
