The Chairman of Research and Information System (RIS), and the Former Foreign Secretary of India, Ambassador Shyam Saran has today paid a courtesy call on President Mohamed Nasheed.

At the meeting held at the President’s Office, discussions were held on the establishment of a shipping line between the Maldives and other Indian Ocean Island Nations, and the preparations for the upcoming SAARC Summit.

Highlighting the Indian entrepreneurs’ investments in the different industrial sectors of the country, President Nasheed noted the improvement it has brought to the country’s economy.

The President also briefed Ambassador Saran on the government’s economic policy and the recently introduced tax system.

The Ambassador discussed the areas in which India could offer assistance in the development of different industrial sectors in the Maldives.
