President of American University of Beirut Peter F. Dorman has paid a courtesy call on Vice President Dr. Mohamed Waheed this evening.

Discussions at the meeting, held at the President’s Office, were primarily focused on increasing collaboration in the education sector, especially in higher education, between the Maldives and the American University of Beirut.

Recognizing the importance of a liberal democratic environment for the sustenance of democracy, the Vice President highlighted the value of introducing liberal arts, philosophy and humanities into the Maldivian educational system.

Further, the Vice President underscored the importance of learning from American University’s of Beirut’s experience in the governance of Universities in order to develop the perspective and understanding of Maldivian students.

At the meeting, Peter F. Dorman shared with the Vice President about university functioning in the American University of Beirut. He further agreed with the Vice President on the areas he proposed to provide aid and increase cooperation between both countries.

The meeting was also attended by Vice President of American University of Beirut Dr. Richard Brow, President of the Worldwide Alumni Association of AUB Zahiya Zareer and the Vice President of the Worldwide Alumni Association of AUB Aishath Mohamed Didi.
