Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed has today met with Ms Patricia A. Butenis, the Ambassador of United States to the Maldives.
During the meeting, Vice President Dr Waheed briefed the ambassador on the challenges that the government was facing in the areas of development.
Dr Waheed spoke on the government’s efforts to consolidate democracy and on the economic difficulties faced by the Maldives due to the global economic downturn. He also explored ways of seeking US assistance to the Maldives in areas such as climate change, drugs issue and terrorism.
Ms Butenis said the United States wished to work closely with the Maldives and assured that the Maldives would continue to receive American assistance.
