President Mohamed Nasheed has said that a line of credit worth 10 Million US Dollars, for imported goods from Sri Lanka to the Maldives, has been established via Bank of Ceylon, under an agreement signed between the governments of Maldives and Sri Lanka. In his radio address given this morning, the President noted that this line of credit to the Maldives, will provide additional opportunities to merchants importing goods from Sri Lanka, and ease the difficulties being faced due to the shortage of foreign currency.

Reflecting on his visit to Sri Lanka from the 16th to 18th of this month, the President revealed that the Sri Lankan government has agreed to construct a 6 kilometer road in Addu City, in assistance to the government’s preparations for the SAARC Summit to be held in the Maldives this year. The President also affirmed that with this aid, high quality main roads will be constructed in Feydhoo, Maradhoo and Maradhoo-Feydhoo of Addu City.

In his weekly radio address President Nasheed highlighted on discussions held with President Rajapaksa, on ways to further strengthen the close mutual relations between the two countries. The President also revealed that the Sri Lankan President has given assurance of their full support and assistance, in making this year’s SAARC Summit a successful one. President Nasheed expressed his hopes for a successful summit in the Maldives this year, with the cooperation from Sri Lanka and other SAARC nations.
