Newly appointed Secretary-General of the Colombo Plan, Maizaan Adam Manik has paid a courtesy call on President Mohamed Nasheed today.
During the meeting held at the President’s office this morning the President congratulated Mr. Adam Manik on his appointment as Secretary-General of the Colombo Plan.
At the meeting, discussions between the President and the New Secretary General were mainly focused on furtherance of Maldivian economic and social development within the South Asian region. Mr. Adam Manik affirmed his commitment to promote a partnership concept for self-help and mutual help in the Maldives development process and endorse south-south cooperation.
The Colombo Plan for Cooperative Economic and Social Development in Asia and the Pacific was conceived at the Commonwealth Conference on Foreign Affairs held in Colombo, Sri Lanka in January 1950 and was launched on 1 July 1951 as a cooperative venture for the economic and social advancement of the peoples of South and Southeast Asia.
