President Mohamed Nasheed has sent a message of condolence to President Pratibha Patil of India following the passing away of Mrs. Shiela Gujral, the spouse of former Prime Minister I. K. Gujral.
President Nasheed's message to President Patil reads as follows:

I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing away of Mrs. Shiela Gujral, spouse of former Prime Minister I. K. Gujral. Mrs. Gujral’s service to the people of India extended beyond the call of duty. She shall be remembered for her contribution to literacy, and for her efforts in promoting social values and communal cohesion in Indian society.
On this sad occasion of grief, the Government and the people of the Maldives join me in extending our profound sympathy to you, the Government and the people of the Republic of India.
