Following discussions on a paper presented by the Ministry of Health and Family, the Cabinet has decided to establish a residential home for the elderly under the administration of a Public-Private Partnership Scheme (PPP.)

Deliberating on the matter, the Cabinet members analysed the situation of the increasing number of charges transferred to Guraidhoo Special Care Centre and the insufficiency of accommodation available to new charges. The Cabinet noted that the existing Special Care Centre was inadequate as the needs of charges in care homes vary considerably.

Additionally, the Cabinet noted the lack of responsibility taken by some families to assess and ensure that those in need receive appropriate care.

At today’s meeting the Cabinet deliberated on the matter of resort development in islands which are currently leased as picnic islands. This ruling was based on the 26th April Cabinet meeting’s decision for the Cabinet Sub-Committee to further examine the issue.

After discussing the issue, the Cabinet decided that the allotted rates for resort development were to be in line with terms and conditions of agreement reached by both parties.

At today’s Cabinet meeting, it was also decided that the further lease of picnic islands is to be discontinued.
