President Nasheed attended the global premier of the Age of Stupid.
The Age of Stupid is a cinema documentary by Franny Armstrong, and John Battsek. It is a drama-documentary-animation hybrid which stars Oscar-nominated Pete Postlethwaite as an old man living in the devastated world of 2055, watching archive footage from 2008 and asking: why didn't we stop climate change while we had the chance?
After screening the documentary, the President was presented with a “Not Stupid” award for his efforts towards addressing climate change issue and for the Maldives' announcement to become the first carbon neutral country in the world.
After receiving the award the President briefly talked on the effects of climate change on the countries fisheries and tourism industry.
Former Secretary General of the United Nations Mr Kofi Annan and climate scientist Dr Rajendra K. Pachauri and former Prime Minister of Ireland, Mary Robinson, also participated in the ceremony.
