President Mohamed Nasheed has today visited the Department of Immigration and Emigration and met the senior officials of the department.

The President’s visit comes as the Maldives Police Services launched an investigation into any possible unlawful activity within the Department in handling expatriate arrivals in the country. Subsequently, immigration officials have been replaced Maldives National Defence Force officials at immigration counters.

Meeting the senior officials of the department, the President said the investigation, that would take about two weeks, would be conducted in a way that would not implicate a single person and called for everyone’s cooperation with the investigation.

He also said that all immigration officials would be able to return to work in two weeks with a new system in operation.
