Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed has urged to focus on academic quality and relevance to the current Maldivian environment to improve the standards of the local higher education sector.
He also called on all stakeholders to engage in dialogue to shape local higher education policy and improve quality of education available in the country.
Speaking on the trend of education in the country, the Vice President noted the importance of cooperation between the government and private institutions in order to provide higher education of international standards.
He underlined that “the active participation of educational key actors from public and private instituitions is vital to the policy discourse required to build academic capacity.”
He made these remarks, at the workshop on tertiary education in the 21st century – opportunities and threats for small state held by Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and the World Bank. The workshop was held today at the Traders Hotel.
The Vice President thanked the World Bank for the important consultation and assistance on higher education.
