President Mohamed Nasheed, as the last leg of his tour to Raa Atoll, has visited Hulhudhuffaaru and met with Hulhudhuffaaru Island Council today.
Meeting the Council, the President discussed with the councillors, the arrangements necessary to deliver government programmes and services in the island through the council.
In addition, the President updated the council on the progress of island’s sewerage and other utilities projects, emphasizing the government’s determination provide reliable utilities in all islands, and sought council’s view on the projects.
At the meeting, the President encouraged the council to draw up a plan to maximise the economic benefits of the island’s land following the transfer of state land titles in the island to the council.
He also discussed with the council on strengthening delivery of decentralized public health services through the council, and broadening the council’s role in improving the island’s education.
The President has returned to Male’ this afternoon after completing his two day tour of Raa Atoll.
