New High Commissioner of South Africa accredited to the Maldives Geoffrey Quinton Doidge has presented his letter of credence to President Mohamed Nasheed today.
Meeting the new High Commissioner, the President congratulated him on his new appointment.
Noting the close relations that exist between the Maldives and South Africa, the President said the Maldives continue to receive the support of the South African government, especially in global climate change debates.
In addition, the President and High Commissioner Doidge explored the possibilities of expanding trade and establishing convenient transportation links to between both countries.
The President and the High Commissioner, agreeing that South Africa produces many items required by the Maldivian market, noted that fostering trade would be mutually beneficial for both countries.
The meeting held at the President’s Office was attended by the Special Envoy of the President Ibrahim Hussain Zaki and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Naseem.
