Minister of Commerce and Industry of India Anand Sharma has paid a courtesy call on President Mohamed Nasheed today.
Speaking at the meeting held at the President’s Office today, the President expressed his deep appreciation and gratitude for the Indian Prime Minister and the government for India’s continued engagement with and assistance to the Maldives.
The President updated the Indian Commerce Minister on development programmes of the government, especially noting the renewable energy projects by Indian companies in the Maldives.
In addition, the President informed Indian Commerce Minister Sharma on the preperations for this year’s SAARC Summit to be held in the Maldives.
The President said the government aims for a constructive progress towards establishing the SAARC transport network proposed by the President. He expressed hope of reaching important agreements on increasing trade within the region.
Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry Sharma assured the President of continued Indian cooperation and support to the Maldives in all areas of development.
He also said India stood committed to support the initiatives by the President in areas.
At the meeting, the President and the Indian Commerce Minister explored other potential areas of cooperation between the Maldives and India, areas in which India could assist the Maldives.
