Sri Lankan Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardena has paid a courtesy call on President Mohamed Nasheed today.
At the meeting, the President and the Sri Lankan Education Minister discussed on increasing education cooperation between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.
The President spoke on the government’s initiative to promote vocational education and training both at schools and for Maldivian youth.
He said the government was consistently working to improve the standard of education in all areas of the country and sought the Sri Lankan government’s assistance in getting more Sri Lankan teachers for Maldivian schools.
The President said getting more Sri Lankan teachers to the Maldives would be mutually beneficial for both countries.
At meeting held at the Office of the President, the Sri Lankan Minister of Education spoke on working with Sri Lankan companies and institutions to facilitate and increase the number of training programmes held in the Maldives.
In addition, he added that the Sri Lankan government would assist the Maldives to provide quality primary, secondary and tertiary education and vocational training.
