President Mohamed Nasheed has today met with the delegation of representatives accredited to the Maldives from European Union member countries currently visiting the Maldives.
The delegation included of Ambassador for the European Union Bernard Savage, Ambassador of Germany Jens Plotner, Ambassador of France Christine Robichon, and High Commissioner of United Kingdom James Rankin.
During the meeting, discussions were mainly focused on current political climate in the Maldives, consolidating democracy and the vital role of the three powers of the state in promoting a system of good governance.
At the meeting, the President highlighted the projects currently underway to advance economic reform and spoke on government initiatives to ensure social protection of the people.
The President expressed his gratitude for the active role of the European Union and EU member countries’ support for the democratic transition as well as the longstanding development cooperation between Europe and the Maldives.
The President informed the members on government initiatives to promote women’s involvement in politics, empower women, free and fair media and consolidate democracy in the country.
The members of the European Union noted on the commitment of the Maldivian government to resolve climate change issues both locally and internationally.
