President Mohamed Nasheed has visited Vilufushi of Thaa Atoll and held talks with Vilufushi Island Council on the development of the island.
In his remarks at the meeting, the President urged the council to work with the people of the island to plan the island’s development.
Meeting Vilufushi Island Council, the President reiterated his appeal to all island councils to work with island school and residents to improve the school’s educational standard and student’s academic performance.
On the development programmes, the President discussed with the council on the progress of the housing units allocated to the island under the government’s housing programme.
In addition, the President sought the council’s view on establishing commercial facilities at Vilufushi harbour through public private partnerships as part of the government’s programme to develop commercial harbours in the islands.
During the visit, the President participated in the tree planting event held in the island today under greening programme in the island.
While in the island, the President visited Vilufushi health centre, school, pre-school, sports centre and fishermen’s market.
He also toured the island’s harbour and inspected the construction of the ferry terminal being built in the island.
President Nasheed has returned to Male’ this afternoon after concluding his tour to some islands of Thaa Atoll that he began yesterday. While on the tour, the President visited Dhiyamigili and Madifushi before arriving in Vilufushi.
