National Crime Prevention Committee formed by the President to formulate and oversee the implementation of crime prevention measures has met with the executive board of Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI).

During the meeting held at the President’s Office, Chairperson of the Crime Prevention Committee Ameen Faisal said the meeting with MATI was a part of establishing a network of stakeholders in criminal justice, crime and conflict prevention, and community and regional safety.

He also underlined the need for collaboration between state and government institutions to jointly function in implementing measures to restore the safety of the community.

MATI’s executive board members commended the leadership of President Mohamed Nasheed in working to reduce and prevent escalating rates of crime and violence in the country.

MATI assured the National Crime Prevention Committee of their cooperation with the government in its efforts to work through a coordinated network of stakeholders to reduce crime.

In his concluding remarks, Chairperson of the Committee Ameen Faisal spoke on the strong stance of the government institutions to work with the government to prevent crime and reinstate social justice and community safety.

The National Crime Prevention Committee is to hold meetings with the Maldives Police Service and the Maldives National Defence Force tomorrow.
