President Mohamed Nasheed has today visited Hulhumalé and toured the sites of on-going projects linked to the government programmes in Hulhumalé to view of the progress of the projects.
During the visit to Hulhumalé the President especially visited the sites of work-in progress of the housing projects under the government´s housing programme.
The government has allocated over 1700 housing units to be built in Hulhumalé under the government´s programme to build 10000 housing units to fulfill its electoral pledge of providing affordable housing for all Maldivians.
As part of the housing programme, 180 housing units to be built in the first phase of Coral Ville housing units in Hulhumalé is on-going with over 45 percent of work completed.
Further, construction of 1000 housing units to be built with the assistance of Chinese government that was launched in November 2010 is also in progress in Hulhumalé.
In addition, two private parties are developing a total of 232 luxury apartments in Hulhumalé.
After concluding the visit to Hulhumalé the President has this afternoon begun a tour of some islands of Kaafu Atoll, visiting Dhiffushi as the first leg of the tour.
Visiting Dhiffushi, the President met with Dhiffushi Island Council to discuss the development programmes allocated for the island.
