The Maldives welcomes United Nations Security Resolution 1973, which imposes a no-fly zone over Libya. The Resolution further permits the international community to take all necessary measures, short of a sending in a foreign occupation force, to protect civilians under threat of attack in the country.

The Maldives hopes the international community’s intervention will protect the Libyan people and help bring about Colonel Gaddafi and his regime’s speedy removal from power.

Earlier this week, the Maldives called on the international community to take robust action, including the imposing of a no-fly zone, in order to protect the people of Libya.
