President Mohamed Nasheed has departed on an official visit to Mauritius this evening. He is also accompanied First Lady Laila Ali.
President Nasheed is making the visit on an invitation from Prime Minister of Mauritius Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam to officiate the country’s National Day Celebrations.
In addition to attending the Mauritian National Day celebrations on 12 March, as the guest of honour, President Nasheed will also meet President Sir Anerood Jugnauth, and Prime Minister Dr Ramgoolam during his visit.
Mauritius celebrates its National Day on 12 March, marking the anniversary of the country’s independence from British rule in 1968 and the establishment of a parliamentary republic in 1992.
