Newly appointed Secretary-General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), Uza Fathimath Dhiyana Saeed has paid a courtesy call on President Mohamed Nasheed today.

During the meeting held at the President’s office this afternoon the President congratulated Uza Dhiyana Saeed on her appointment as Secretary-General of SAARC.

The President said the government proposed Uza Saeed to the post of Secretary-General with complete confidence in her ability and credentials.

The President expressed his confidence in further fortifying regional ties and the overall strengthening of SAARC as a regional organization during Uza Saeed’s tenure as the Secretary General of SAARC.

At the meeting Uza Dhiyana Saeed thanked the President for the government’s vote of confidence in her ability to transform SAARC into a more effective regional organisation.

She reaffirmed her commitment to the progress and advancement of SAARC and expand the role of the SAARC secretariat.
