President Mohamed Nasheed has asked Ministry of Finance and Treasury to investigate Thilafushi Industrial Zone reclamation project for any unlawful activity.
The President’s request to investigate the project comes after the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) asked Thilafushi Corporation to halt and reopen the project for tender alleging corruption was involved in awarding the project to Heavy Load Maldives.
The task was given to the Ministry of Finance and Treasury as all the government owned companies are run under the ministry.
The letter from the President’s Office to Acting Minister of Finance and Treasury Mahmood Razi requesting the investigation recalled the directive issued by the President’s Office on 21 October 2010 appealling full compliance of all the government authorities with the ACC’s instruction to suspend or discontinue any of the government projects.
