President Mohamed Nasheed has met with the members of the visiting Mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), today.

At the meeting held at the President’s Office this morning, the President spoke on the effects of global economic recession on the Maldives. He briefed the Mission on the measures that the government were taking to reduce the impact of the current economic situation. Furthermore, President Nasheed noted that reducing government expenditure was a priority of the government.

The President thanked the IMF for its contribution towards the development of the Maldives.

Head of the Mission, Mr Jeremy Carter spoke on the steps the government needs to take to achieve sustainable economic growth.
