President Mohamed Nasheed has today visited Vaikaradhoo and Neykurendhoo of Haa Dhaal Atoll.

 
Meeting the people of Vaikaradhoo and Neykurendhoo, the President reiterated that no other party other than the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has made a pledge to the people of this country.
 
Speaking in this regard, the President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to deliver its pledges, stating that it was not possible to have an objective without a pledge.
 
The President said the government’s pledges, and subsequent development policies, were formulated to build a nation that people desired. He highlighted that alleviating poverty and improving people’s living standards as the ultimate objectives of government policies.
 
Noting the achievements in providing social protection, the President said over Mrf685000 was spent on providing health services to people who needed healthcare out of 375 residents of Vaikaradhoo registered in Madhana. A further Mrf217,000 was paid as health insurance to people who needed healthcare out of 187 residents of Neykurendhoo, insured by Madhana health insurance scheme.
 
In addition, he said 94 residents of Vaikaradhoo and 68 residents of Neykurendhoo continue to receive old age pension.
 
Speaking in Vaikaradhoo, the President reiterated that no other country in global Muslim community other than the Maldives granted full freedom to Islamic scholars to deliver sermons and give good religious advice.
 
He noted that no other government in this country could match what his administration has done to strengthen Islamic faith in the Maldives.
 
Speaking in Vaikaradhoo, the President said the island’s harbor construction would begin this year.
 
Speaking in Neykurendhoo, the President declared the government’s intention to develop Neykurendhoo, Vaikaradhoo, Kumundhoo Kulhudhuhfushi, Nolhivaran, from Nolhivaranfaru to Hanimaadhoo of Haa Dhaal Atoll and from Baarah to Kelaa of Haa Alif Atoll as a city.
 

In his address to Neykurendhoo, the President shared with the people the government’s plans to build a penitentiary on the island. He said this facility would provide employment opportunities for the people of Neykurendhoo as well as people of the region.
